The Electricity Network Plan Delivery team sits within the Strategic Energy Planning directorate, aiming to produce GB’s first Centralised Strategic Network Plan, setting out the future of GB’s energy networks. In this team, we currently have two roles open for Design Analysts to lead the development and integration of the new strategic network planning delivery monitoring and change control processes.

 

This will include accountabilities for both onshore and offshore network designs, such as interactions with future and legacy network design analysis, technical design specifications and registers, Connection and Use of System Code’s (CUSC) reviews and alignment to relevant regulatory frameworks and domestic planning applications. The successful candidate will work in collaboration with a variety of internal and external stakeholders, to understand the complexities of strategic network design delivery implementation and contribute to development of strategies to overcome delivery challenges for new network infrastructure.

 

This role can be based from Wokingham, Warwick or Glasgow and we continue to offer hybrid working from office and home. We are open to full time and part time applicants, as well as flexible working arrangements.

About the National Energy System Operator (NESO)

In Autumn of 2024, the ESO transitioned to National Energy System Operator, or NESO for short. Previously denoted as the Future System Operator (or FSO), the new National Energy System Operator is the independent body responsible for planning Great Britain’s electricity and gas networks and operating the electricity system.  

 

The ESO, including all of its existing roles, are now at the heart of the new National Energy System Operator. As NESO, we will build on our existing roles, capabilities, and ways of working significantly to create an organisation the energy system and its users’ need. Our new capabilities will enable us to look across vectors, including electricity, natural gas and hydrogen, and crucially consider the trade-offs between them.

 

The organisation is set up as a public corporation with its own Board of independent directors, with complete operational independence from government, the regulator and any and all commercial interest. As was the ESO, NESO will be licenced and regulated by Ofgem through price control agreements and obligated to identify optimal solutions to system operations and planning in the most sustainable, affordable and secure way for all.

Key Accountabilities

  • Analytical monitoring of the evolution of technical design specifications including identifying change control triggers, related commercial code updates and associated planning intelligence.
  • Proactive risk and trend analysis to identify potential areas of network development risk requiring critical delivery support.
  • Design high level network topology diagrams and visualisations in order to aid technical analysis and for use in technical reports.
  • Produce technical summaries of specific project parameters and design assessment outcomes to support design delivery work
  • Represent the NESO and its interests at external forums, including carrying out the technical secretary role and providing content where appropriate.
  • Support with tracking milestones and creating slide packs related to Electricity Network Plan Delivery work, including turning datasets into a presentable format.
  • Oversee team’s use of Customer Relationship Management tool (Salesforce), logging data, identifying insights and managing actions.
  • Proactively work with colleagues in the Electricity Network Planning Team to understand how the scope of Electricity Network Plan Delivery work may need to evolve considering parallel network planning activities.

About you

  • Passionate about asset data accuracy and governance, a keen eye for detail and identification of anomalies and errors
  • Experience of tracking project delivery, using project management tools such as work package breakdowns, Gantt charts, risk management, or similar
  • Ability to work in uncertain and adaptable projects where the “answer” is subject to a number of unknowns which may change during the course of the project during its development
  • Solid experience of using Microsoft Office suite, including Power BI and internal Works Management System (WMS) interfaces 
  • Comfortable in using initiative as well as networking to solve problems, a can-do attitude and approach to overcoming delivery barriers as they may arise
  • Strong communicator with excellent writing skills.

About what you'll get

A competitive salary between £47,000 - £63,000 per annum – dependent on experience and capability. As well as your base salary, you will receive a bonus based on company performance, 26 days annual leave as standard and a competitive contributory pension scheme where we will double match your contribution to a maximum company contribution of 12%.
